the one, the only: jerry bridges
Can't believe it, but I had the priviledge of meeting Jerry Bridges this morning at the Pastor's College Wives gym time! What a priviledge!
For you that don't know who this gifted writer is, he has written many very helpful books for the church today, including:
Trusting God,
The Discipline of Grace
Transforming Grace, just to name a few.
I have benefitted immensely from this man's insight into the truth of Scripture living. Probably the book that helped me most was Trusting God. In it, Bridges truly lays out for us the total sovereignty of God, so that we might be confronted with our own view of God. I remember feeling "adjusted" as I read this book, and my understanding of God's complete control of this world and my life in it grew by a degree or two.
But you'd never know this man was a highly respected author. He is meek, warm, and gracious. And he stood there in the gym for at least 45 minutes while each PC couple posed to get a picture with him. He didn't seem to mind, but just smiled warmly as each new couple approached him. My husband told me that although Jerry is already 82, he is hoping to complete 4 more books before God calls him home. We figured out that could be a book every two years, if he lives to be 90! A life such as Jerry Bridges' causes me to call to mind the verse from Psalm 16, "As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight." Amen.
