when the props fall

Really, the use of "props" in my title today was intended to mean "supports" or  "objects placed beneath or against a structure to keep it from falling or shaking." I didn't intend for it to also mean the "props" of modern slang.  But, well, maybe that too.  If "props" are props for you, then it applies.

So, what do you do when your props fall?  Or when your props fail?  When all the things you thought made you...you, begin to chip away, break down, fade... into nothingness?  Your reputation takes a beating.  Your skills lack.  Your friends fail.  Your family can't help.  There is no rescue.  It's just you.  And Jesus.   And you're not even the you you thought you were.  So really, there's just Him.

It's then that you have a choice to make.  It's actually, perhaps, the most defining moment you've ever encountered.  Yeah, this is what it means for you to "walk by faith, not by sight."  This is when you believe that "He is your life and length of days" (Deut. 30:20).  The moment has arrived.  When faith grows arms and hands, legs and feet, and it's your body that gets up and keeps going.  Will you get up and keep going?  I hope so.  Cause the journey hasn't really begun until that moment.

It's the best moment.  For it's now you know that nothing else in life can truly sustain.  Nothing else in life can support.  There is truly and most surely only one Way, one Truth, and one Life.  And it's only Jesus.  And He's your best friend.  The falling and failing of the props is the scariest best moment.  'Cause it's then that you have clarity, if only for a short spell.  You can't do it..life...any of it.  Not even a smidge.  If God were not "for" you, this is where you'd crash and burn.  But He is "for" you.  He is behind the scenes, over the scenes, writing the scenes of your life.  And all those props...they were just false supports all along.   Rejoice and be glad.  The props are gone.
