never land for the stressed and blessed
Can't believe this is happening to me, friends. I am 2 weeks away from some "dream world, never gonna happen, doesn't happen to girls like me" kind of moments! We are not only moving back to the U.S., but the Lord has GRACIOUSLY enabled us to buy a home that we think we're going to love for many years to come. If you follow me on Pinterest, you may have noticed my "For the new house" board that keeps growing and growing as days go by. Yep. Dreams come true. My wonderful and amazing husband is giving me a budget and setting me loose to find furnishings for our new home in the states. Now after 20 years of marriage, being able to buy a new sofa and some things to go along with it is like Christmas morning when you're five. Me? Really? New house?New sofa? We've had one (gingham) sofa that belonged to us for 17 years that we gave to Goodwill when we left the PC in Gaithersburg. (They wouldn't accept the matching green chair since the wood frame of the arms was prominently poking through the upholstery.) So this girl has been in la-la land for a week or two now. Here is a picture of our (Lord willing) future home.
The blue will have to go. No worries there...nothing a little KILZ won't take care of. Actually we've got this bright blue room along with a bright pink bedroom, a navy blue bedroom, aqua in the bathrooms and yellow in the kitchen. Keith said he knows how he'll be spending his days off our first year living here...painting.
But seriously, I cannot even say how blessed I feel right now. Stressed and blessed. Stressed that we're closing on this house two weeks from today. Blessed that we're closing on this house two weeks from today. Ask me how many boxes I've packed...31. That's it folks. 31 boxes contain our worldly goods right now. 1339 lbs. And these last few days, ZEESH! If you've moved much, you realize it's all the last minute packing that really gets to you. Nitty gritty things like, "Once we pack the pots and pans, how do we cook and eat?" "How do we ship our bedding when we need it our last night in the house and we're shipping everything days ahead?" My girls would've been happy for me to pack up their school books TOO. But Ha!! Still finishing up. Well, we've been through a lot of this before when we moved here. So moving back should be a snap...except for the house buying process. Yeah. No. Not so snappy there. Who knew there were about 20,000 more things to fill out, fax, and mail today when buying a home than they required even 8 years ago? Well, maybe you did...but not us. No sirree Bob. And international mailing can just about send you over the...uh, cliff. $50 to mail a check so we knew it would get there safe and on time. $50!!! I could have bought a bazillion things for the new house for that moola.
But Lord willing, this will all go through and we will be homeowners two weeks from today. Keep us in your prayers! Today I await the shipping company who will magically appear and remove all 31 parcels from my entry way here. Then I am going to: take a nap (sleep isn't so good these days), clean up the house, help kiddos with math and science, and make dinner. Since the packing is 90% done (still have clothing, etc. that will go on the plane) next week should be a breeze, right?

She's a cutie, I think. Not exactly that cottage look I love, but she'll do quite well. The plan is for this to be the home of hospitality we've always hoped for, both in the short and long term. Someday we hope my mom and dad may be able to move in if they need extended care, which is why we kept to one level living. It has a large living room (or great room as our Southern friends say) for those church and family gatherings we hope to host. I'm already planning how Christmas will go! Here is our great room...it is pretty great!
